Schefflera Arboricola, also Known as Dwarf Umbrella Tree
Known also as the Dwarf Umbrella Tree, the Schefflera Arboricola Plant comes from Taiwan and is a broad-leafed plant that is popular as a houseplant. The reason for this is that not only is it good looking, but it is also easy to grow and adapts to different growing conditions.
During summer you’ll find the plant brings forth small red flowers. The leaves are fairly large, growing in clusters of about 7 leaves and in a circular fashion – like an umbrella. You’ll also find quite a few Arboricola varieties but they all are good at filtering impure air and providing our interiors with cleaner air.
How to care for the Schefflera Arboricola
- These plants are medium- to high-light plants but they can, in fact, adapt to different light levels. They’re hardy enough to cope with full sun but for indoors, it is better to give them some form of protection from direct sunlight. It doesn’t enjoy cold temperatures.
- It is such a tolerant plant. You can water it when the potting mix dries out. Don’t allow the saucer below the pot to accumulate water. Throw the water out rather. Over-watering never does any good – just leads to root rot.
- The Schefflera Arboricola will enjoy a misting to keep the humidity high.
- It will require you fertilizing it once a year, making use of general-purpose houseplant fertilizer. With fertilizer, to avoid harming the plant, make sure to read the directions for use on the label.
- The right conditions can encourage the dwarf tree to grow from between 5 feet to 10 feet in height.
- The large leaves can be wiped gently with a damp cloth.
- You can prune your Schefflera Arboricola plants in the spring.
